What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach that helps the brain process distressing or overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel as intense or disruptive. Rather than focusing only on talking through what happened, EMDR supports the nervous system in reprocessing experiences in a way that feels more manageable and grounded.

For teens and young adults, EMDR can be especially helpful when past experiences continue to show up as anxiety, emotional overwhelm, self-doubt, or difficulty feeling safe, even when you’re trying your best to move forward.
Who EMDR Theapy can help
EMDR therapy may be a good fit for teens and young adults who are experiencing:

-
Anxiety or panic symptoms
-
Trauma or distressing life experiences
-
Emotional overwhelm, shutdown, or feeling “stuck”
-
Negative self-beliefs or low self-esteem
-
Relationship or attachment challenges

You don’t need to have one specific “big trauma” for EMDR to be helpful. Many clients seek EMDR to work through experiences that continue to impact how they feel, think, or relate to others in everyday life.

What EMDR therapy is like
EMDR therapy is collaborative and paced to your comfort level. We begin by building safety, grounding skills, and trust before moving into any processing work. You remain present and in control throughout the process, and sessions are always adjusted based on what feels manageable for you.
Many teens and young adults find EMDR to be less overwhelming than traditional talk therapy — especially when talking in detail about difficult experiences feels exhausting or hard to access.
My Approach to EMDR Therapy
I approach EMDR therapy with a grounding, relational, and developmentally appropriate lens for teens and young adults. Sessions are individualized and focused on helping clients feel safe, supported, and empowered throughout the process.
EMDR may be integrated with somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and DBT-informed strategies to support both emotional insight and nervous system regulation. Therapy is collaborative and paced intentionally, with an emphasis on meeting you where you are.
